Reuters is reporting that McCain now has a five point lead over Obama. Like all polls, this one is just a data point, and people should not get too high or low over any one poll.
In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.McCain leads Obama among likely U.S. voters by 46 percent to 41 percent, wiping out Obama's solid 7-point advantage in July and taking his first lead in the monthly Reuters/Zogby poll.

More, after the fold.

"There is no doubt the campaign to discredit Obama is paying off for McCain right now," pollster John Zogby said. "This is a significant ebb for Obama."McCain now has a 9-point edge, 49 percent to 40 percent, over Obama on the critical question of who would be the best manager of the economy -- an issue nearly half of voters said was their top concern in the November 4 presidential election.
Poll shows McCain in 5-point lead over Obama
The economy? People think McCain can manage the economy? The Obama message needs to get out more and better. McCain is Bush III on the economy.
In light of the trend in polls, this means to me that McCain's constant attacks are having an effect in defining Obama negatively. And we have not yet seen Rev. Wright and Ayers, bitter and proud attacks, which are sure to come.
We have the Convention coming up and Obama should get a bounce. And this poll likely has errors, as the poll junkies will show us.
To me, this also means that Obama should consider both attacking McCain more and showing real anger when McCain attacks his patriotism, along with more of this:
For those who return to civilian life, I will support their American Dream in this 21st century just as we supported generations of veterans in the 20th. That starts with education. Everyone who serves this country should have the same opportunity that my grandfather had under the GI Bill. That's why, unlike my opponent, I was a strong and early supporter of Jim Webb's GI Bill for the 21st Century - a bill that Senator McCain called too generous. At a time when the skyrocketing cost of tuition is pricing thousands of Americans out of a college education, this bill provides every veteran with a real chance to afford a world-class college education. And that's what I'll continue to stand up for as President.
Barack Obama: The American Dream Candidate"The time has come to bridge the growing divide between Main Street and Wall Street. The American Dream is slipping out of reach."
-- Barack ObamaIn this year's presidential election, it is clear which candidate will work the hardest to help working people: Senator Barack Obama.
Restoring the American Dream
For the last eight years, working families have been battered economically.
Barack Obama understands the challenges that working people face -- and he has a plan to restore the American Dream for every American.
When Obama pitches economic populism in the rhetorical garb of the American Dream, it resonates with the voters he needs. Why? Because it's true. Obama embodies an aspect of the American Dream.
So, hit McCain hard and talk about what matters to regular folks. Jobs, houses, the economy.
Those are my thoughts. I'm sure others will have some. Please discuss.
